New Benefits of Encrypted Google Search

Posted on | May 23, 2010 | No Comments | read 234 times

google launched a new Live beta search this week–encrypted search using SSL (secure sockets layer) to protect searches from being snooped or intercepted while traversing the Internet. Encrypted Google search is still not entirely private, but it has benefits for individuals and businesses to ensure sensitive information is not exposed to prying eyes.
The new encrypted Google search is easy enough to use. Simply type “https” at the beginning of the URL rather than “http”. Doing so sets up an encrypted pipe between your Web browser and Google so that any search traffic is kept private between you and Google.
It is not completely private because obviously Google still has a record of what you searched for. Google has established its reputation based on the “Do No Evil” mantra, and most businesses and users implicitly trust that Google won’t do anything insidious with its omniscient cataloging of every bit and byte that crosses the Web. But, Google has faced privacy challenges again and again, including the recent revelation that it has “accidentally” captured and archived intercepted wireless data with its Google Street View cars for years.

Google’s New Look For Search Result Pages Goes Live

Google’s New Look For Search Result Pages Goes Live like Bing search engine
Live from google I/O
Google has rolled out to the general public a new design/layout for their results page, and it’s just as much like Bing as it was back when they were testing it back in January (there were rumors at the time that this was rolling out live for everyone, but it appears that a few more months of tweaking was required—Google’s official announcement on their blog says that this new look reflects feedback they’ve received from testers over the past several months). It’s so much like Bing that it’s alarming.

Of course, it’s nearly impossible to believe that Google is copying Bing… for a host of reasons. First and foremost, they don’t need to copy Bing. What little market share Bing has grabbed has largely come from Yahoo and not Google, and the upstart engine from Microsoft has yet to prove itself a real threat to the search giant. Copying your competitors who have only 20% of your market share is not generally considered a good strategy. You’re already beating them.

Second, changes like this don’t happen overnight. They don’t even happen over a few months’ time. They take years, typically. Foundations for this redesign were surely in place long before Bing had much of anything to show for itself.

But that doesn’t mean Google hasn’t possibly Read more

iPhone 4GS

New iPhone Concept

As the iPhone 4G prototype scandal continues, Apple on Wednesday announced the date of its annual Worldwide Developers Conference. The Mac maker will host WWDC 2010 at San Francisco June 7-11.
Major highlights of the five-day conference include the first-ever iPad development sessions and hands-on working labs for iPhone OS 4.0, as well as Mac OS X core technology labs. Many analysts also expect the introduction of the iPhone 4G, and Apple CEO Steve Jobs has previously — and mysteriously — hinted at other new devices planned this year.
Scott Forstall, Apple’s senior vice president of iPhone software, is pushing the WWDC as a “unique opportunity for developers to work side by side with Apple engineers and interface designers to make their iPhone Read more
